Who else out there has been on a weight loss, weight gain yo-yo? I think most of us who have struggled with our weight know how it goes. We lose a little only to gain it back, and sometimes more. Maybe, just like me, you have tried everything out there...every diet, every fad, every vitamin, shakes, fasting, starving, and maybe even surgery. And just like me, maybe you have felt like a big fat failure when the weight just creeps back. It feels impossible. Every Monday a new diet. Every New Year a resolution. It never ends.
But here's the problem. We are looking at this wrong because it IS wrong. It is not about the diet. What doesn't make sense is that none of that works, especially when you can try so hard. How does it make sense to starve, eat dangerously low amounts of food, that we don't lose the weight? The answer is, it doesn't make sense, because obesity is a chronic and relapsing disease. If it is all about calories in and calories out, then you would lose weight. But the math doesn't add up.
Instead of thinking about the weight loss journey with medication assistance as a diet, you have to change your mindset. It is not a diet...it is management of a chronic illness, and obesity is a chronic illness.
So come Monday, decide to believe in yourself, believe you aren't broken, or a failure, or bad, or ugly, or any of the things that you can convince yourself. Know that you just need something to help your body operate better, just like folks who take medication for any other illness (high cholesterol, depression, high blood pressure, seizures). Sometimes our bodies just don't have that little extra something to keep us at a healthy place. Now thank to the newer GLP medications like semaglutide (wegovy/ozempic) and tirzepatide (mounjaro/zepbound), we have solutions.
Live your best life!
